Challen Baby Grand (ready soon)
Challen made large numbers of small grand pianos in the 1930s which were eagerly bought by good folk who found the idea of these diminutive instruments very appealing. One could have an imposing instrument in a modest front room or flat without having to eject other items of essential furniture. The beginning of the Second War brought an abrupt end to frivolous activities like piano building and the era of the “baby grand “ appeared to be over. However once hostilities had ceased life began to return to normal and factories which had been requisitioned for war work began to hope for a brighter future. This little chap was made in 1961 but is identical in every way to earlier prewar offerings. Somewhat of a rarity ( some would say a “throwback”) it has a very nice tone with a pleasant light touch and comes in an attractive mahogany case. Currently enjoying a light “ fettling” and will be ready shortly. Please call if you need further information.
